Wireless communication is mainly used for voice communications. But wireless operators are also interested in delivering data over wireless networks. However, a new buzzword WAP (wireless application protocol) is designed specifically for delivering internet data over wireless network. WAP was designed to bring internet content and advanced data services to digital cellular phones and other wireless terminals and create a global wireless protocol specification that will work across differing wireless network technologies. The WAP standard represents the first successful attempt to establish a broadly accepted environment for delivering information, data and services to both enterprise and consumer users over wireless network. Delivering internet data over wireless network provides the user with the portability of data. The WAP standard consists of a verity of components, including network transport protocol and an application environment integrating a browser markup language scripting and telephony. It is really great to be able to access the internet through a handheld device as a mobile phone.
